Statutory Mandate

Departmental Goals

The department is tasked with managing Early Childhood Development & Education (ECDE) and Vocational Training Centres (VTCs), which are fully devolved functions under the Fourth Schedule of the Constitution of Kenya.

Key Functions

Core Responsibilities

Providing strategic leadership and management in the education sector to ensure quality standards and access for all.

Promotion of Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) through infrastructure development and curriculum support.
Management and administration of Vocational Training Centres (VTCs) to equip youth with technical and entrepreneurial skills.
Establishment and management of the County Education Bursary Fund and specialized scholarship programs like 'Fins to Swim'.
Development and implementation of Human Capital Development policies and programs for the county.
Provision of Quality Assurance and Standards in all county-managed educational institutions.
Formulation and implementation of Homegrown School Feeding Programmes to improve ECDE retention.
